Josephine Arnold 


I trained as a professional dancer, studying all forms of dance at Arts Educational Schools London.

Studying ISTD Advanced Ballet under Ann Heaton from the London Festival Ballet; Modern, Contemporary & Tap; and Jazz under Arlene Phillips (creator of Hot Gossip and a previous SCD Judge).

For a number of years I performed as a soloist dancer at the Moulin Rouge in Paris and then formed my own dance group touring throughout Europe.


My deep understanding of all forms of dance enhances my knowledge of the body and its movement.

I returned to England in 2000, for my son’s education and worked in Customer Services. While working in an office, I practised Pilates to maintain my suppleness and fitness levels.

I then qualified as Level 3 Mat Pilates Instructor, gaining my CYQ qualification including Level 3 Anatomy and Physiology. I have since completed further courses in the use of Pilate’s small equipment, resistance bands, balls, circles and Swiss Balls. 

I was initially teaching Pilates part-time, but since stopping my office job in 2012, it gave me the opportunity to do what I love doing full time.  I now have regular Pilates classes set up throughout Southampton.

I am also a qualified Les Mills Body Balance Instructor.  Body Balance is a mixture of Tai Chi, Pilates and Yoga.  It is set to music and has a great flow to it.  It can be a bit more challenging, but the exercises have a number of different levels to choose from, so you can work with in your own abilities.  Since Covid I no longer have a regular class, but I cover classes throughout the Southampton gyms, so keep an eye out for me!

I also have Level 3 qualification in Nutrition for Physical Activity, so if you need any nutritional advice, please do not hesitate to ask me!
